Students’ work for sale at auction

The Post Falls High School fourth annual woodshop auction will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the school’s commons. Since the start of the school year, more than 100 students have been working on the auction items, including many Adirondack chairs, cabinetry, shelves and a shed.

The proceeds will help pay for supplies, new tools, and equipment maintenance.

“It’s helped out huge,” Colby Mattila, the high school’s woodshop teacher, said about the auction he started when he came to the school four years ago. “It helps keep projects up to date and keeps the cost down for the kids.”

Mattila said he starts the beginner students on crafting a push stick – which is “sanded to perfection” – to guide wood through the shop’s saws. The higher-level classes work on the bigger projects, such as the 8-foot-by-8-foot shed.
