Tigers 14, Cardinals 4: Andrew Miller threw six scoreless innings in his first major league start and Detroit scored nine runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Cardinals at Detroit in a rematch of the 2006 World Series. Gary Sheffield and Magglio Ordonez homered early for the Tigers, who lost to St. Louis in five games last October.

Indians 9, Reds 4: Ryan Garko overcame a costly throwing error by hitting a three-run homer and Grady Sizemore had four hits including a two-run shot to help Cliff Lee improve to 8-0 in interleague play as the Indians beat Cincinnati at Cleveland.

Twins 8, Brewers 1: Boof Bonser struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven innings and Torii Hunter hit his second grand slam of the season as the Twins defeated the Brewers at Milwaukee.

Angels 9, Dodgers 1: Brad Penny, who came in with a 1.39 ERA, was roughed up in his first loss of the season as the Angels defeated the Dodgers at Anaheim, Calif.

Athletics 15, Giants 3: Dan Johnson hit a two-run homer and joined Eric Chavez in scoring three early runs apiece as Oakland defeated San Francisco at Oakland, Calif.

Mets 3, Yankees 2: Endy Chavez’s go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning led the Mets to a victory at Shea Stadium.

Orioles 5, Nationals 4: Chris Ray put runners on the corners in the ninth inning, then got Ryan Zimmerman to fly out on a full-count pitch to seal a save, helping Baltimore snap a five-game losing streak by defeating the Nationals at Washington.

Phillies 5, Blue Jays 3: Jon Lieber pitched seven-plus strong innings, Brett Myers escaped a bases-loaded jam, and the Phillies beat Toronto at Philadelphia.

Cubs 6, White Sox 3: Angel Pagan’s two-run triple in the seventh tied the game at 3, then he scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball by Toby Hall as the Cubs beat the White Sox at Wrigley Field.

Marlins 8, Devil Rays 4: Byung-Hyun Kim won his Marlins debut and Aaron Boone hit a grand slam, leading Florida past Tampa Bay at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Rangers 7, Astros 4: Nelson Cruz and Ramon Vazquez hit back-to-back homers and Robinson Tejeda shut out the Astros for five innings as Texas won at Houston.

Royals 5, Rockies 2: Emil Brown hit a three-run home run to left field in the eighth inning to lift Kansas City to a victory over Colorado at Devner.

Braves at Red Sox, ppd.: The Atlanta game at Boston was rained out and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader today.
