Prep Roundup: Bonners Ferry thumps Sugar-Salem in State 3A baseball

A.J. Bennett’s two-run triple sparked a seven-run fifth-inning as Bonners Ferry routed Sugar-Salem 10-2 on Friday in a loser-out consolation game at the State 3A baseball tournament at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon.

The Badgers’ Ross Patterson earned the win after pitching the complete game.

Jake Watt added an RBI double in the fifth for Bonners Ferry (20-7).

In other 3A action, Filer scored eight runs in the third and beat Priest River 11-9 in a loser-out game. The Spartans scored six runs in the first to take an early lead but Filer responded with their big third inning. Aaron Harty and Dustin Lehman drove in two runs apiece to lead Priest River. The Spartans end their season with a 14-12 record. Filer will play Bonners Ferry in the consolation championship today.

“Sandpoint defeated Bishop Kelly 6-4 in Boise to reach the consolation title game today at the State 5A tournament. The Bulldogs will face Rigby this morning on the tournament’s final day.

Softball

Timberlake kept its tournament hopes alive after beating Bear Lake 2-1 at the State 3A tournament at Ward Field in Pocatello. Kala Allred picked up the win after pitching a complete-game three-hitter. The Tigers lost their first game of the day to Marsh Valley 4-3 and then beat McCall-Donnelly 10-0. Brittany Amende went 3 for 4 and scored twice to lead Timberlake in its win over McCall-Donnelly. Timberlake (23-7) and Marsh Valley will play again today for a chance to play in the championship game.

Boys tennis

Coeur d’Alene’s Matt Marceau beat Capital’s Paden Jacobson 7-6, 7-6 and advanced to the semifinals at the State 5A tournament in Boise. Marceau will face Andrew Brown of Capital today.

“Moscow’s Stephen Kwaitkoski won both of his matches and advanced to the semifinals at the State 4A tournament in Boise. Kwaitkoski will play Hillcrest’s James Weber today.

“Clark Fork’s Frederico Moreira beat Clearwater Valley’s BJ Allen 6-1, 6-1 at the State 3A tournament in Boise and will advance to play Homedale’s Joshua Myers in the semifinals today.

Girls tennis

Lewiston’s Kim Fong fell 6-2, 6-2 to Mountain View’s Brittniy Moore in the quarterfinals then beat Coeur d’Alene’s Lauren Galante 6-0, 6-0 at the State 5A tournament in Boise. Fong will face teammate Rye Hewett today in a consolation match.

“Sandpoint’s Abby Helander beat Jerome’s Dorothy Lopez 6-0, 6-1 and advanced to the semifinals at the State 4A tournament in Boise. Helander will play Hillcrest’s Brooke Sailer today.

“2006 state champion Rayna Allen of Clark Fork advanced to the finals of the State 3A tournament in Boise after beating Community School’s Amanda Alexander 6-3, 6-4. Allen will defend her title today against Parma’s Kali Roche.
