Prep Roundup: Lakeside posts State 1A baseball win

Rylin Dukes went 3 for 3 and scored two runs, leading Lakeside to a 5-2 win over Chewelah Saturday in the second round of the State 1A tournament at Moses Lake High School.

Dukes also picked up the win for the Eagles after allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Lakeside (23-1) advances to the semifinals Friday at Paul Thomas Field in Wenatchee.

Chewelah (13-11), which beat Cle Elum 10-4 earlier, is finished for the season.

Earlier in Moses Lake, Lakeside beat Kiona-Benton 10-7. Anthony Froemke went 2 for 3 and scored four runs to lead the Eagles.

“Republic routed Asotin 22-8 and then lost 7-0 to LaSalle and is eliminated from the State 2B tournament at Shadle Park High School. In other first-round action at Shadle, DeSales eliminated Lind-Ritzville 22-7 and Waterville beat St. George’s 9-8 to knock the Dragons out of the tournament.

Joe Avey pitched a complete-game no-hitter while striking out 19 as Northport routed Colton 12-2 in the first round of the State 1B playoffs at Eisenhower High School in Yakima. Avey also had four hits and drove in four runs to lead the Wildcats. … Also at Eisenhower High School, St. Michael’s was eliminated after falling 5-0 to Liberty Christian. Loren Bordeau pitched a complete-game one-hitter to lead Liberty Christian, which advances to play Northport in the semifinals Friday at Parker Field in Yakima. … Anthony Smith drove in three runs, leading Odessa to an 8-4 win over Oakville at Naches Valley High School in Yakima. The Tigers advance to play Pateros, which beat Lake Quinault earlier, in the semifinals Friday at Parker Field in Yakima.

Track and field

Lakeside’s Kayloni Jones won the 1,600 meter run in 5 minutes, 26.41 seconds and took the 3,200 in 11:41.07, leading the Eagle girls to a first-place finish at the District 6/7 regional championships at Cashmere High School Friday. Kelli Tikker also won an event for Lakeside, taking the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches. The Cashmere girls took second, followed by Freeman and Chewelah.

For the boys, Newport’s Adam Walden won the 110 hurdles (15.04) and the 300 hurdles (38.87) as the Grizzlies captured the team title. Cashmere finished second, followed by Freeman and Lakeside.
