Area roundup: UI’s Nakashima moves up

University of Idaho junior Kelly Nakashima improved eight positions Wednesday as she climbed from a tie for 95th to a tie for 87th after a 6-over-par 78 during the second round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship on The Legends course at LPGA International at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Nakashima struggled on the front nine, but shot even par on the back nine.

Christel Boeljon of Purdue University leads the tournament at 3-under 141.

The tournament continues today and concludes Friday.

“Tim Feenstra of TPC Snoqualmie Ridge shot a final-round 67 to finish at 10-under 203 en route to a victory by six strokes in the 81st Washington Open Invitational at Glendale Country Club in Bellevue.

Former Ritzville resident Ryan Benzel tied for fifth place at 211. Indian Canyon’s Adam Syverson finished at 213 and tied for 11th, while Painted Hills’ Tim McElhinny tied for 16th at 215.
