As weather warms, service schedules change

You know summer is close when the weather warms, children look forward to finishing the school year and churches start switching to their summer worship schedules.

A few Valley churches are using the Memorial Day weekend to launch new schedules, which usually involve different worship times or only offering one worship service each Sunday instead of two.

Zion Lutheran Church will switch to offering one worship service at 9:30 a.m. each week beginning Sunday. The schedule will continue through August. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.

The Veradale United Church of Christ will begin its weekly worship service at 9:30 a.m. beginning Sunday. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.

Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will begin offering one worship service at 9:30 a.m. each week beginning Sunday.

Church game night

The Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene will host a barbecue and game night Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the youth and children’s ministries.

There will be a dunk tank for 25 cents per throw and the pastors plan to take turns in the dunking seat. There also will be water slides, softball and carnival games. Donations will be accepted. The church is at 15515 E. 20th Ave.

Family dinner theater

Zion Lutheran Church will host a potluck dinner and family-friendly dinner theater performance by the improv comedy group Blue Door Theatre next Saturday.

The meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the performance at 7. The event is a fundraiser for the Youth and Family Ministry Team.

Tickets for the event are $8 for adults and $6 for kids under 12. Call the church office at 926-5407 for more information. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.

Garage sale

The youth of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will put on a garage sale fundraiser next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 16508 E. Sprague Ave. The church, at 15319 E. Eighth Ave, will be accepting donated items for the sale this week. Call the church at 926-6450 for more information.
