In brief: Girl killed in wreck was Selenia Daniels

The Spokesman-Review

A teenage girl killed in a Thursday night wreck in south Spokane County was identified Friday as 15-year-old Selenia Daniels.

Daniels was a freshman at Liberty High School and was on the junior varsity volleyball and softball teams, Liberty Superintendent Duane Reidenbach said in a written statement.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies said the crash happened when a Chevy Corsica driven by an unlicensed teenage boy went out of control near the intersection of Calumet and Marsh roads, rolling 100 feet down an embankment.

Others were injured in the crash. A 14-year-old girl was admitted to a Spokane hospital and was in satisfactory condition Friday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A 16-year-old male passenger was treated at a downtown hospital and released Thursday night.

The 16-year-old driver and a 17-year-old girl did not need medical treatment.

All five teens in the car were students at Liberty High School.

Two dogs running loose kill, injure goats

Six goats were killed and seven injured Friday morning by two dogs running at large in north Spokane County, animal control officials said.

Neither the dogs nor their owners have been identified, said Patricia Simonet of Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services. One dog was medium to large with medium-length white hair. The second was a medium to large black dog with white on its chest.

The dogs killed four baby goats and two adult goats in the attack near Oregon and Bruce roads, Simonet said. Five adults and two kids were injured, some severely.

Two women witnessed the dogs attacking the livestock animals Friday morning and chased the dogs off, Simonet said. They reported “injured or dead goats everywhere.”

Anyone with information on the dogs is asked to contact SCRAPS at (509) 477-2532.

Toddler hurt in crash declared brain-dead

An 18-month-old girl critically injured in a Wednesday evening crash north of Spokane has been declared brain-dead but remains on life support, hospital officials said Friday.

The man who police say caused the crash, Michael Q. Beckley, will be charged with vehicular homicide, said Washington State Patrol spokesman Trooper Mark Baker.

Gabriella Autry was with her mother, Belinda Autry, stopped at a traffic light at Day Mt. Spokane Road and Highway 2 when their Subaru Legacy was hit from behind by a Chevy Blazer. The force of the impact pushed the Subaru into another vehicle.

Gabriella Autry was in a child safety seat.

According to the WSP, the driver of the Blazer, 34-year-old Beckley, was not paying attention and may have been fiddling with a cell phone.

Court records show that Beckley has been convicted of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, illegal drug possession and theft.

The other drivers were treated and released from the hospital.
