In brief: Officer hospitalized after cycle crash

The Spokesman-Review

A Spokane police sergeant has been hospitalized after a motorcycle crash.

Sgt. Eric Olsen was involved in the single-motorcycle crash on a return trip from training in the Tri-Cities, said Spokane police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer DeRuwe. He was driving a Spokane Police Department motorcycle.

Olsen was taken to Kennewick General Hospital where he was stabilized and transferred to Spokane’s Sacred Heart Medical Center, a Kennewick nursing supervisor said. Hospital officials in Spokane would not release Olsen’s condition.

His injuries are not life-threatening, DeRuwe said.

Olsen was on Highway 395 about 15 miles north of Pasco when the crash occurred, DeRuwe said. The Washington State Patrol is investigating.

Olsen has been with the department for 17 years, DeRuwe said. He is the supervisor of the swing shift traffic unit.

Patterson in jail after hospital release

A 26-year-old man who was injured when a Spokane police officer returned fire earlier this month has been released from hospital care and booked into Spokane County Jail on three felonies.

Ryan L. Patterson drew and fired his pistol at Officer Todd Brownlee, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. Brownlee shot Patterson once in the jaw.

Patterson is charged with first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine, Reagan said.

On May 1, a Spokane homeowner called police after he discovered Patterson lying on his front porch steps. Brownlee, who responded alone, attempted to make Patterson leave the home, but the suspect became combative, Reagan said.

Patterson was treated at a Spokane hospital and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Reagan said. Patterson has been awaiting transfer back to Spokane from King County Jail since May 12.

The Sheriff’s Office has been the lead agency in the officer-involved shooting investigation. The bulk of the investigation has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review, Reagan said.

Three sex offenders move to area

Two level 3 sex offenders have moved to Spokane, and a third has moved to Airway Heights.

Graham P. Payne, 50, is living as a transient. He is described as white, 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes, said Spokane Police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.

Payne was convicted of second-degree rape in 1991 in King County, DeRuwe said. Payne’s victim was a 15-year-old girl.

Payne is no longer under supervision, DeRuwe said. He is not currently wanted by law enforcement.

Nicholas Rettinger, 47, is living downtown. He is described as white, 5-foot-8 and 230 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes, said DeRuwe.

Rettinger was convicted in 1996 of second-degree rape in Spokane County. His victim was a 14-year-old girl.

Rettinger is being supervised by Washington Community Corrections Officer Tim Johnson, DeRuwe said.

In Airway Heights, Anthony J. Dellwo has moved into the 12500 block of West 20th.

Dellwo, 25, was convicted in 2001 on charges of first-degree child molestation and communication with a minor for immoral purposes, said Spokane County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan.

Dellwo’s victims were 7-, 10- and 15-year-old girls, Reagan said. In 1999, Dellwo was convicted of third-degree assault with sexual motivation involving a 15-year-old boy. Dellwo’s crimes were committed in Spokane County.

Washington Department of Corrections will supervise Dellwo until mid-2009, Reagan said. Dellwo is not to consume alcohol or be around minors under the age of 16,

Dellwo is described as white, 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.
