Gonzaga’s Graves hires new assistant
Gonzaga women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves has hired a former employee as an assistant basketball coach.
Lisa Mispley Fortier replaces Triana Allen, who is leaving after three seasons to marry George Wrighster, a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Before spending last season as an assistant at Northern Colorado, Mispley was GU’s coordinator of basketball operations. She is a former player at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Rowing
The Gonzaga University men’s rowing program received two bids to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships as qualifiers were announced by the competition committee late last week.
Gonzaga will enter boats in both the Varsity Four-plus and Varsity Four-minus at this year’s races set for May 31-June 2 at Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Gonzaga’s Varsity Four-plus consists of LeeAnne Templeman, Warren North, David Hinshaw, Brendan McCarthy and Matt Wernette.
The Bulldog Varsity Four-minus includes Pat Swihart, Greg Malman, Brian Franceschi and Scott McCoy.
Seeding for the championships will be released later this week.
Baseball
Ikaika Lester had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to power Lewis-Clark State to an 8-1 victory over Bellevue at the NAIA World Series in Lewiston.
