LC student wins National Merit scholarship

Theodore Newell of Lewis and Clark High School has earned the National Merit University of Washington scholarship.

The Merit scholarships are given to students whom the state has judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential success in their college studies.

Newell plans to study electrical engineering.

More Merit Scholars will be announced July 16.

Crafty summer camps

Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh Ave., will offer its Corbin Kids Summer Camp June 11-15 through the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department.

Kids ages 3 through 11 are invited for camps including drama, adventure, crafts, art, history, nature and science.

Registration is required for each class.

Donations for all-nighter needed

The Medical Lake Senior Aloha Committee needs donations to sponsor students who might not be able to afford to attend the annual drug- and alcohol-free senior Aloha on June 9.

The committee also is seeking donations for entertainment, facility rental, gifts, prizes, gift certificates and food.
