Rathdrum prairie news: Summertime schedule already filling fast with fun
It’s almost summertime. Although the calendar doesn’t officially recognize summer until June 21, water parks are on full summer schedules, the kids get out of school next Thursday, and Post Falls Days marks the first of hundreds of local summer celebrations, events and activities.
Liquid, sunshine
Wild Waters is celebrating its 25th year with giveaways and daily specials. The water slide park opened last week with 14 of the fastest water slides around. With names like Black Hole, Twister, Drop-Off, Skidder and Double Trouble, you know you’re in for a thrill.
For those with little ones, try out Dolphin Island Slides, the Big Kahuna Waterfall, the River Run Tube Ride, Paddle Boat Lagoons, Wild Willy’s Sandbox, Water Wars Balloons, or the new 1,200-foott Sunny Side Lazy River.
Wild Waters is at 2119 N. Government Way, in Coeur d’Alene. Call 667-6491 for more information.
Silverwood thrills
New summer attractions add to the thrills, chills and excitement of a trip to Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park this summer.
With more than 65 rides and attractions, both parks offer something for everyone. For thrill-seekers, there are the hair-raising wooden roller coasters of Roller Coaster Alley – Tremors and Timber Terror – and the excitement of Velocity Peak, a high-speed water slide tower that gives a 55 mph ride on a thin layer of water.
Less daring activities include Bumper Boats, a steam engine train ride, a dip in the Boulder Beach Bay wave pool, or the lazy day enjoyment of a float trip down Elkhorn Creek. Kids can spend hours riding the Tiny Tot Roller Coaster or climbing the Tree Fortress at Garfield’s Summer Camp; or enjoying the water toys at Polliwog Park.
New attractions include the park’s biggest water slide yet – Avalanche Mountain. This ride gives adventurous swimmers the chance to walk up a mountain trail, climb onto a raft and splash their way down a 650-foot slide to a below-ground canyon.
A second wave beach and private cabanas to rent have also been added to the water park.
If you get the chance, take advantage of the $10 discount during the 92.9 ZZU Pepsi Family Fun Weekend, Friday through Monday. Just pick up a ZZU/Pepsi coupon at local restaurants and grocery and convenience stores where Pepsi is sold, and present it at the gate. Go to www.silverwood themepark.com for more information, or call 683-3400.
Kick off summer in Post Falls
A three-day celebration at Post Falls Q’emiln Park this weekend will kick off the summer season.
“Post Falls Days is always the weekend before the kids get out of school – we kind of get everybody cranked up for summer,” said Kristy Reed Johnson, a member of Post Falls Community Volunteers.
Activities include food and craft vendors, carnival rides, a beer garden and lots of great entertainment.
The town’s “Home Sweet Home” Parade, at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, kicks off a full day of events that include an evening performance by the Rhythm Dogs. For information call 777-1588.
It’s Hershey time
It’s time for kids to find our how fast they can run, how far they can throw and how high they can jump. Friday’s free event gives kids ages 9 to 14 the chance to measure themselves with times and distances.
Sponsored by the Hershey Chocolate Corp. and the Idaho Recreation and Parks Association, the event will be held at Lakeland High School. Late registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the meet begins at 6 p.m.
