In brief: Coffee house displays photos
The work of photojournalist Reta Gilbert will be displayed during November at On Sacred Grounds: Coffee, Tea, & Specialty Shoppe, 12212 E. Palouse Highway.
Gilbert annually visits the Far East and has compiled a collection of images from China and Vietnam. As a professor emeritus from Eastern Washington University and Fulbright Scholar to Indonesia, she brings more than 30 years of cross-cultural research and studies into this exhibit.

Businesses boost ‘Girls Day Out’
Four neighborhood business areas in Spokane are teaming to promote a Girls Day Out for shopping in those districts on Nov. 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Garland, South Perry, Hillyard and East Sprague Avenue merchants will have special treats and treatments for women shoppers on those days. According to the sponsors, women control 88 percent of all purchases, and 75 percent of family finances are run by women.

Inland Crafts notes 25 years
Inland Crafts is presenting its 25th Annual Inland Crafts Show, Friday from noon to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Group Health Exhibit Hall of the Spokane Convention Center, 334 Spokane Falls Blvd.
Around 75 artisans from six states and British Columbia will be in attendance and will show crafts from many different media including basketry, blown and kiln-formed glass, jewelry, clothing, metal sculptures for gardens, dolls and furniture.
The event will include live demonstrations and refreshments and light lunches will be available. A daily $100 gift certificate will be awarded.
Admission is $7 and is good for the entire weekend, or free from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday. One dollar for every paid admission will be donated to Mobius Kids. For more information, visit www.inlandcrafts.org.
