Appleway Florist and Greenhouse will celebrate its 55th anniversary today as a family owned and operated business with the annual holiday open house.

Bob and Virginia Lewis established the business one block east of Sprague Avenue and University Road in 1955. Second- and third-generation family members are continuing the family legacy.

There will be door-prize drawings every hour plus hot wassail, cookies and candy. The business will feature fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Heritage Museum tea party planned next Saturday

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum is hosting its third annual Tea and History Party next Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Opportunity Presbyterian Church 202 N. Pines Road.

The tea includes finger foods, desserts, door prizes, raffles, music by the barbershop quartet Grandpa’s Sound and a living history presentation by Lou Carver.

In addition, the Heritage Preservation Award will be presented to Bert Porter, a Valley native and early supporter of the museum. The award is presented each year to someone who has contributed to the understanding of Spokane Valley history.

Tickets are $12 for the fundraising event, with all proceeds going to underwrite museum activities. RSVP to museum director Jayne Singleton by calling 922-4570.

Highlighter to show how it’s done at Halpins

Have you ever wondered how those Thomas Kinkade limited-edition giclee canvases got their sparkle?

Next Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., a certified “master highlighter” will be at the Halpins Gallery, 11406 E. Sprague Ave., to demonstrate how the technique is done.

The event is free.

U-Hi craft, antique fair will be next weekend

The University High School Craft and Antique Fair will be next Saturday and Nov. 11 at the school gymnasium, 32nd Avenue and Pines Road.

Admission is $2 for adults and children are free. The fair will include holiday gifts, decorations, home décor, antiques and skilled crafters. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The fair is presented by the U-Hi Instrumental Music Association. For more information, call 928-8016.
