Top 25: FSU upsets Boston College
Geno Hayes returned Matt Ryan’s third interception for a 38-yard touchdown with 1:10 to play on Saturday night to help Florida State beat No. 2 Boston College 27-17 in Boston, ending the Eagles’ run at an unbeaten season and shaking up the BCS standings again.
With the loss by BC (8-1, 4-1 ACC), there are three unbeaten teams left in the nation – Ohio State, Kansas and Hawaii – and a handful of one-loss teams that can argue for a spot in the Bowl Championship Series title game.
Drew Weatherford completed 29 of 45 passes for 354 yards for Florida State (6-3, 3-3), hitting Preston Parker nine times for 93 yards and a touchdown and De’Cody Fagg on six catches for 111 yards and a TD.
(1) Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 17: At Columbus, Ohio, Chris Wells ran for three second-half scores to help the Buckeyes (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten) overcome a third-quarter deficit and beat the Badgers (7-3, 3-3).
Ohio State’s defense totaled 10 sacks and 13 tackles for negative yardage.
(3) LSU 41, (17) Alabama 34: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Tigers (8-1, 5-1 SEC) scored two touchdowns in the final 3 minutes to rally to a win over the Crimson Tide (6-3, 4-2).
Matt Flynn tossed a pass over the middle to Early Doucet to tie the score with 2:49 remaining. After a John Parker Wilson fumble, Jacob Hester scored on a 1-yard run to seal the victory.
(5) Oklahoma 42, Texas A&M 14: At Norman, Okla., Jermaine Gresham matched a school record by catching four of Sam Bradford’s five touchdown passes, and the Sooners (8-1, 5-1) took sole possession of first place in the Big 12 South with a win against the Aggies (6-4, 3-3).
Bradford and Gresham hooked up twice, from 3 and 13 yards, before the Aggies even completed a pass.
(9) Missouri 55, Colorado 10: At Boulder, Colo., tight end Chase Coffman caught three of Chase Daniel’s five touchdown passes as the Tigers (8-1, 4-1) routed the Buffaloes (5-5, 3-3).
Jeremy Maclin gained 187 all-purpose yards for Missouri.
(10) Georgia 44, Troy 34: At Athens, Ga., Knowshon Moreno became the first Georgia freshman since Herschel Walker to run for 1,000 yards, going for 196 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs (7-2) defeated the Trojans (6-3).
Moreno’s second straight three-touchdown game was highlighted by an 80-yard first-quarter touchdown run, Georgia’s longest in 10 years.
(14) Texas 38, Oklahoma State 35: At Stillwater, Okla., Ryan Bailey kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Longhorns (8-2, 4-2 Big 12) to a 38-35 victory over the Cowboys (5-4, 3-2).
Texas outscored Oklahoma State 24-0 in the final 15 minutes.
(15) Michigan 28, Michigan State 24: At East Lansing, Mich., Chad Henne’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham with 2:28 left lifted the Wolverines (8-2, 6-0 Big Ten) over the Spartans (5-5, 1-5).
The Spartans drove to the Wolverines 34 on the final drive before turning the ball over on downs.
(16) Connecticut 38, Rutgers 19: At Storrs, Conn., Donald Brown ran for 154 yards and a touchdown to lead the Huskies (8-1, 4-0 Big East) to a victory over the Scarlet Knights (5-4, 1-3).
The Huskies’ special teams accounted for nine points, with a safety and a 97-yard kickoff return by Tyvon Branch.
(18) Florida 49, Vanderbilt 22: At Gainesville, Fla., Percy Harvin became the first player in school history with 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game, scored twice and helped the Gators (6-3, 4-3 SEC) hammer the Commodores (5-4, 2-4).
Tim Tebow completed 22 of 27 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns for Florida.
(19) Auburn 35, Tennessee Tech 3: At Auburn, Ala., Brandon Cox completed his first seven passes, leading to three early touchdowns before leaving the game in the second quarter, and the Tigers (7-3) cruised to a win against the Golden Eagles (4-6).
Cox completed 9 of 11 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown.
Cincinnati 38, (20) South Florida 33: At Tampa, Fla., Antwuan Giddens scored on a 63-yard reception and recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a second touchdown, helping the Bearcats (7-2, 2-2 Big East) beat the Bulls (6-3, 3-1).
Ben Mauk tossed three TD passes and the Cincinnati defense forced eight turnovers.
Virginia 17, (21) Wake Forest 16: At Charlottesville, Va., Mikell Simpson ran 1 yard for a touchdown with 2:18 to play and the Cavaliers (8-2, 5-1 ACC) beat the Demon Deacons (6-3, 4-2), Virginia’s third one-point victory in four games.
The Cavaliers’ last four victories have come by a total of five points.
Arkansas 48, (23) South Carolina 36: At Fayetteville, Ark., Darren McFadden ran for 323 yards and a touchdown, boosting his Heisman Trophy hopes as the Razorbacks (6-3, 2-3 SEC) defeated the Gamecocks (6-4, 3-4).
McFadden also threw for a touchdown, and Felix Jones rushed for 163 yards and three TDs for Arkansas.
(24) Tennessee 59, Louisiana-Lafayette 7: At Knoxville, Tenn., the Volunteers (6-3) scored on every drive and added touchdowns with Antonio Reynolds’ 70-yard interception return and a 20-yard blocked punt return by Antonio Wardlow in a rout over the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-8).
Arian Foster and Lennon Creer both ran for touchdowns. Foster finished with 100 yards on 20 carries.
(25) Clemson 47, Duke 10: At Durham, N.C., Cullen Harper’s short scoring run set off a momentum-shifting burst of 16 points in 39 seconds that carried the Tigers (7-2, 4-2 ACC) past the Blue Devils (1-8, 0-6).
C.J. Spiller returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown for Clemson.
