Emergent movement focus of conference

Whitworth University and the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest will present a conference, “An Emergent Mainline Dialogue: Listening to Generations Past, Present and Future,” Friday and Saturday on the Whitworth campus, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.

Representatives of the Emergent Church movement will speak at the conference which will be held in the Robinson Teaching Theatre at Weyerhaeuser Hall.

The cost is $65 for pastors and lay leaders and $10 for students. For more information, call 777-3275.

Spokane City Forum

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will host another Spokane City Forum speaker Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The speaker this month is MaryJane Butters, an author and entrepreneur.

Butters will speak on the topic “Living Green.”

The cost to attend is $10 or $5 for students and includes lunch.

Veteran’s Day sing

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will offer a special choral Evensong for Veterans Day Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Gentlemen of the Choir will be featured during the service officiated by the Very Rev. Bill Ellis, dean of the cathedral. The preacher for the service will be Rev. Jon Holloway.

The choir will be conducted by David Asplin, and the organist will be Janet Satre Ahrend.

As with most concerts at the cathedral, the labyrinth will be open for self-guided tours, meditation and hospitality from 1 to 4 p.m.

Spiritual workshop

The Radha Yoga Center will offer a free light and vibration reading today at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.

Swami Lalitananda will discuss how light and sound can open us to the universe within.

The yoga center also will present a workshop on light and vibration Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the center, 406 S. Coeur d’Alene St.

Lalitananda will lead the workshop which is $65.

Church fundraisers

St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1104 W. Heroy Ave., will present a bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items for sale include baked goods, antiques, a country store, collectibles, and there will be a boutique.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and there will be a beer garden from 5 to 7 p.m.

Singles groups

Spokane Christian Singles is hosting speed dating this weekend.

Singles 20 to 49 years old will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. Singles older than 45 will meet Sunday at 2 p.m.

Both sessions will be held at Colbert Presbyterian Church, 4211 E. Colbert Ave.
