Help clean garden this weekend

The Spokane Preservation Advocates will hold another “Doing It” project 9 a.m. to noon Saturdayat the Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens near the Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh Ave.

The project will include raking leaves and pine needles in preparation for winter.

Volunteers should wear gardening clothes, boots and sturdy gloves. If you have rakes, bring them along, too.

A light breakfast will be served, and Lynn Mandyke, Heritage Gardens Project manager will give a tour.

Crafts take stage at holiday fair

The Spokane Community College Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair on Nov. 10 and 11, will feature the works of various Pacific Northwest artists and crafters.

The event, held in the Lair-Student Center, Building 6, 1810 N. Greene St., will also have food vendors, entertainment and raffles. Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 10, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11. Admission and parking are free. Proceeds will go to the SCC environmental science clubs’ student scholarships and leadership activities.

Scouts collecting food Saturday

Scouts from across Eastern Washington and North Idaho will be collecting food donations door to door Saturday to benefit Second Harvest’s emergency food network and community food banks.

In Spokane County, Scouts left specialty plastic bags on doorsteps Nov. 3. The scouts will return Saturday morning to collect the bags containing donated food. Supporters of the drive are asked to place donations containing nonperishable food items outside their front door by 9 a.m.

The annual Scouting for Food activity is sponsored by the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Rosauers. Those wishing to support the food drive and miss the Scouts collecting bags on Saturday are encouraged to drop off donations at any Rosauers.

Celebrate holiday at activity center

The Project Joy Orchestra is planning a Veterans Day Show this afternoon at the Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland Ave.

The 2 p.m. show will feature Kevin Hekmatpanah, an associate music professor at Gonzaga University, as conductor and Sunrose Duo with vocals and piano. Ed Anak will act as emcee.Tickets are $8 at the door and free to veterans. Refreshments are provided by Spokane Teacher’s Credit Union.
