Greyhounds pound Ephrata
Jared Byers rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Pullman Greyhounds to a 36-10 victory over the Ephrata Tigers in the first round of the State 2A playoffs in Pullman.
Ephrata led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, but Pullman (11-0) took control with 22 unanswered points in the second quarter.
Quarterback Cam Turtle connected with David Rockefeller for a 7-yard TD and scored Pullman’s final TD on a 1-yard run.
Pullman will play Burlington-Edison (10-1) in the quarterfinals.
•In another State 2A first-round matchup, James Valdez scored on a 3-yard run in overtime to send the Othello Huskies to a 27-21 win over the Colville Indians (9-3) in Othello.
State 1B preliminaries
Jordan Hughes scored four TDs to propel the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors to a 52-14 preliminary-round win over the visiting Garfield-Palouse Vikings at Coulee City.
Hughes scored on runs of 37 and 2 yards. He was on the receiving end of an 85-yard TD pass from Josh Goodwin and also returned a punt 35 yards to the end zone. Goodwin passed for 257 yards and three TDs. ACH (10-1) will play Touchet (10-0) in the quarterfinals.
