The Spokane Association of REALTORS®

Ken Garceau, a REALTOR® with John L. Scott, was recently recognized by the Spokane Association of REALTORS® with the Senior Real Estate Specialist designation.

REALTORS® who receive the designation are specifically trained to understand the distinct real estate goals, concerns, and needs of seniors today.

This course looks at key differences in housing options, from age-restricted communities to age-in-place design to assisted living; applications of the housing for Older Persons Act; the ins and outs of reverse mortgages; the use of pensions, 401k accounts, and IRAs in real estate transactions; and developing a team of senior specialists.

In addition, each year the REALTOR® Achievement Award is presented to a member of the Spokane Association whose recent skill and energy has contributed in an outstanding manner to the real estate profession and the community. He was Selected for the honor in 2007.

Garceau is a Top Producer and a recipient of the John L. Scott EMERALD Award. His energy has contributed in an outstanding manner to the real estate profession and the community.

Garceau began his career in real estate in 1987. During the next 15 years his professional involvement was in commercial, industrial, leasing, sales and management.

He spearheaded the Spokane Association Homewnership event in 2006 and the subsequent work of the Spokane Affordable Homeownership Task Force. His efforts led to the Spokane Association of REALTORS® being awarded two National Association of REALTORS® Smart Growth Grants in 2006 and 2007 — the lone association in the country to do so.

Garceau is a a member of the Spokane Association’s board of directors, serving his first year of a two-year term. In addition to being involved in local activities, he is also involved in the political process locally and statewide. He also twice served as past chairman of the Spokane REALTORS® Governmental Affairs Chair.
