Elias ends slump in style
Patrik Elias ended an 11-game slump without a goal exactly when New Jersey needed him to, scoring with 5 1/2 minutes remaining as the Devils came back to beat the slumping host Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 Monday night.
Penguins defenseman Jarkko Ruutu briefly left Elias undefended in the Devils’ end, allowing Elias to take the lead on a 3-on-2 break. Elias’ goal was his third of the season and his first since he scored twice against Atlanta on Oct. 13.
Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3: At Sunrise, Fla., Cory Stillman scored his second goal of the game with 1:09 left to lift Carolina to a victory over Florida shortly after fellow Canes forward Erik Cole was removed from the ice on a stretcher.
Cole, injured in a collision, was examined and released from the hospital. A CT scan was negative.
Flyers 3, Islanders 2: Scottie Upshall scored twice to lead host Philadelphia to a win over New York and help the Flyers remain undefeated at home.
Predators 4, Blue Jackets 1: At Columbus, Ohio, J.P. Dumont had two goals and an assist, and Nashville sent Columbus to its fourth straight loss.
Sharks 5, Coyotes 0: At San Jose, Calif., Joe Thornton and Devin Setoguchi scored two goals each and the Sharks beat Phoenix for their second win over the Coyotes in three days.
