Help fill the bus Saturday

Students and staff from the Central Valley School District will host the annual Fill the Bus food drive on Saturday to help feed nearly 800 families for the holidays.

Each CVSD middle school will be parking a bus outside of grocery stores and encouraging patrons to help fill the bus with donations that will go to the food bank at Spokane Valley Partners. All locations will be collecting donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EAST FARMS

Run for fun Saturday

Newman Lake and East Farms parents and students will be running for fun this weekend.

The Turkey Trot Fun Run on Saturday will benefit East Farms Elementary and the East Farms Running Club.

The run starts at 9 a.m. at East Farms Elementary, 26203 E Rowan Ave., and should last about 90 minutes. The event is $5 per person, and runners can select routes of a half mile, 1 mile or 3 miles.

Also, the Mountain View Middle School Parents Association will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for $3 a person at Mountain View Middle School, 6011 N. Chase Road, which is just north of East Farms Elementary.

Christmas Bureau helpers needed

Volunteers are needed for the 2007 Christmas Bureau, a joint effort of Catholic Charities of Spokane, Volunteers of America and The Spokesman-Review.

The bureau provides toys, books and candy to low-income people in the community. Last year, donations to the Christmas Fund, which is operated by The Spokesman-Review to raise money for the bureau, totaled more than $518,000. More than 31,000 people were served in the bureau’s two-week run.

This year’s bureau will open on Dec. 8, and close on Dec. 21. It will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. except Sundays.

Volunteers must be age 16 or older and will be required to attend an orientation lunch on Dec. 7 at noon. To volunteer, fill out an application at www.catholiccharities spokane.org.
