Granddaughter recovering from auto accident
This is an update on my 6-year-old granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicole Davis, for all of you out there that might be wondering how she’s doing.
Liz was injured in an auto accident on Oct. 5, 2007, two miles south of Colville. The accident took the lives of her father, Mark Davis, and her 16-year-old sister, Aundrianna (Drie) Davis. Her 17-year-old brother, Alexander Davis, was treated and released the same night.
Liz was flown to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. She was unconscious, with head trauma, and was found to have a broken leg and collar bone. She spent the first 10 ½ days in intensive care unite and was transferred to a room on Oct. 16, where she began to amaze everyone with her recovery progress.
On Oct. 23, she was moved to St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute where she has continued to make amazing strides toward recovery. She has come from having everything done for her to doing many things for herself. She’s talking now and has learned to use a wheelchair, walker and now crutches. She’s doing so well that we are having problems keeping up with her energy level. Now we have learned that on Friday, Nov. 9, we will be able to bring her home.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been there for us through all this with your prayers, moral and financial support, and physical help. Many people have asked if a fund has been set up for the family, and I am glad to report that one has been set up at Bank of America under the name of April Merwin, Liz’ mother.
They are still in need of a plumber who is willing to drive to Addy, Wash., and an electrician to check to be sure they can safely use electric heaters to supplement their wood stove.
