Political contributions, opensecrets.org
Mitt Romney touched down in Idaho and on the other side of Washington last night, trying to pick up a little more cash.
He probably picked the right part of this state for a quick panhandle. Our contributions here in the 509 aren’t going to carry anyone into the White House.
They’re interesting, though. Using the ZIP code function at opensecrets.org, we developed a couple of quick neighborhood profiles.
Here are a few ZIP code profiles, with the totals donated so far in the 2008 election cycle.
99203: $48,164. Strangely, Larry Craig picked up almost a 10th of this, with $4,600 from one donor reported just days before the Minnesota Bathroom Dance.
99206: $10,083. Contributors in this ZIP code gave a lot of help – at least relatively – to Ron Paul and the Constitution Party.
99223: $59,709. This is the big-money ZIP code. Top recipients: McMorris Rogers, Mitt Romney, and the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.
99207: $3,800. This is the little-money ZIP code. Top recipients: McMorris Rogers, the Democrats and an association of orthopedic surgeons.
