Shelter did right thing

The Spokesman-Review

Kudos to your photographer for capturing a perfect ironic moment with the Grahams. (“Family dog at the center of a legal storm,” Nov. 9). Had Harlee been microchipped, or at the very least had his collar on, he would have been returned right away.

But shame on you for publishing the man’s name in the newspaper.

He was an innocent bystander and a generous supporter to all of the animal shelters in our area, and now he’s receiving threats in the mail and on the phone from people who don’t know the real story.

Harlee was in fact found in city limits, and SpokAnimal did everything right by trying to find a home for him, just as they do every day for thousands of our community’s animals.

And shame on the Grahams for encouraging the man to “go after” SpokAnimal.

I am a part-time employee of SpokAnimal. I am also a volunteer working with all three shelters.

All of our local shelters operate on a limited budget, and every dollar spent on frivolous lawsuits is a dollar taken away from the care of our animals.
