Chiefs’ Bowman earns second straight award
For the second straight week, Spokane’s Drayson Bowman is the Western Hockey League Player of the Week.
The 18-year-old left-winger, in his third full season with the Chiefs, collected eight points in two games last week, augmenting five goals with three assists, as Spokane won twice to extend its second-longest win streak of the season to six games.
During the current streak, Bowman, a third-round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in June, has 12 goals and five assists, raising his season totals to 23 goals and 19 assists. His goal total is tied for first in the WHL, his points rank second.
The U.S. Division-leading Chiefs, three points up on Tri-City, embark on a five-game trip through the Central Division beginning Friday in Calgary.

For directing Washington State to a 42-35 win over Washington in the 100th Apple Cup, quarterback Alex Brink was named the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
In his final game as a Cougar, Brink hit 27 of 40 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions to earn his second career weekly award.
Women’s basketball
Heather Bowman, who averaged 21.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and shot 51.9 percent as Gonzaga won two of three games last week, is the West Coast Conference Player of the Week.
