Prep roundup: Mykines’ penalty-kick goal lifts Mead over Mt. Spokane

Marissa Mykines scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to lift the Mead Panthers to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Mt. Spokane Wildcats in Greater Spokane League girls soccer on Wednesday.

Mt. Spokane (3-3, 3-2) goalkeeper Callie Bergstrom initially stopped Mykines on the penalty kick, but the block rebounded to Mykines, who punched it in from 8 yards out.

Mead (9-1, 5-1) kept its hold on first place. Panthers keeper Kelsey Terris stopped 10 shots on goal en route to the shutout.

Bergstrom finished with 10 saves.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Megan Lindsay booted four goals and Maddy Scott added a goal and two assists to lead the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (6-1, 4-1) to a 7-1 romp over the visiting University Titans (4-5, 2-3). U-Hi avoided being shut out when Megan Dempsey found the net in the 78th minute. … Alex Richardson scored an unassisted goal in the first half and Ashley Wiggs took a pass from Jackie Morden and scored in the second half as the Central Valley Bears (7-3, 3-3) posted a 2-0 victory over the visiting North Central Indians (0-7, 0-6). Mallory Flesher stopped six shots to earn the shutout. … Hallie Stocker got an assist from Alix Silha, her second of the match, and booted the game-winner in the second overtime to lift the Lewis and Clark Tigers (9-2, 4-1) to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Ferris Saxons (2-5, 2-3) at Hart Field. Kenzi Grow staked the Tigers to a 1-0 first-half lead, but Erica Smith pulled the Saxons even with a goal in the 43rd minute. Kelsey Lin assisted on Smith’s goal. … Mallory Mott finished with a goal and two assists to spark the East Valley Knights (4-3, 3-2) to a 6-0 victory over the visiting Rogers Pirates (0-7, 0-6). Danielle LeGore and Rachael Killingsworth each added a goal and an assist for EV. The Pirates managed just one shot on goal for the match.
