Rice ends 4-game losing streak

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Jarett Dillard caught two touchdown passes, Andrew Sendejo intercepted two passes and Rice held off a fourth-quarter comeback to snap a four-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 31-29 Conference USA victory over Southern Miss.

The Owls (1-4, 1-0) converted four of seven Golden Eagles turnovers into 24 points and batted down a two-point conversion that would have tied the game late. Southern Miss (2-3, 1-1) was down by 24 with 10:30 left, but scored two late TDs to cut the deficit to 31-29.

After forcing the Owls to punt, Southern Miss quarterback Stephen Reaves fumbled with about a minute left to end the comeback attempt.

It was the first win at Rice for new coach David Bailiff and the seventh straight league win for the Owls.
