Montana State wins sloppy game over Southern Utah
Aaron Mason scored on a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Kory Austin intercepted Southern Utah in the end zone with 33 seconds left to help Montana State secure a 7-3 victory Saturday in Bozeman, Mont.
Snow fell early in the game and the field was sloppy. Mud covered the players’ uniforms.
The Bobcats, ranked 13th in the Football Championship Subdivision, scored their only touchdown with 12:01 left in the half.
Southern Utah, playing its fourth game against ranked FCS teams, got its only score on a 48-yard field goal by Steve Pulver with 11:39 left in the third.
Jack Rolovich completed just 9 of 22 passes for 75 yards for MSU, while Wes Marshall was 19 of 31 for 215 yards and two interceptions for the Thunderbirds.
Idaho State 26, Northern Colorado 14: At Pocatello, Idaho, Eddie Thompson caught 10 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns to help the Bengals beat the Bears.
Northern Arizona 44, Portland State 43: At Portland, Kasseem Osheroff’s two-point return of a missed conversion attempt early in the fourth quarter made the difference in the Lumberjacks’ come-from-behind victory over the Vikings.
Weber State 26, Sacramento State 7: At Ogden, Utah, Tim Toone caught six passes, four of them for touchdowns, for 128 yards as the Wildcats won for the first time this season by beating the Hornets.
Freshman Cameron Higgins completed 13 of 20 passes for 245 yards for the Wildcats and Trevyn Smith rushed for 110 yards.
