Changes sought to land-use plan
A series of 15 proposed amendments to Spokane County’s comprehensive land-use plan could change the face of rural locations as well as several sites on the edge of the county’s urban area.
A public hearing before the county Planning Commission is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today in the commissioners’ assembly room in the lower level of the county Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway Ave. Testimony will be heard until 5 p.m., and the hearing could be continued if testimony is not finished then, county staff said.
Here is a rundown of the proposed amendments:
“Spokane Rock Products wants to expand mining to 131 acres of land east of the intersection of Eloika Lake Road and U.S. Highway 2.
“Rick and Carla Lungo, of Nine Mile Falls, are seeking limited commercial development or 5.7 acres on Half Moon Prairie east of U.S. Highway 395 and north of Russell Road.
“Michael and Karen Schmitz of Spokane want to change 160 acres from rural conservation to a less restrictive rural designation west of Hayford Road and north of Newkirk Road.
“Stanley Stanek of Spokane is seeking a change of rural conservation to less restrictive rural use on 260 acres south of Craig Road adjacent to Jacobs Road.
“McGlades LLC of Colbert wants to turn 4.5 acres at the northeast corner of Yale Road and Day-Mount Spokane Road into a limited commercial area from its present urban reserve designation.
“Silver City Timber Co. of Chattaroy wants to redesignate 160 acres near Nelson Road and east of Madison Road into a less restrictive rural use from its current designation as rural conservation.
“Ronald Lemery of Mead is seeking a less-restrictive rural designation for 46 acres northwest of the intersection of Denison-Chattaroy Road and Perry Road.
“Wayne Christenson of REW Christenson Farms LLC of Mead wants to turn 243 acres of small-tract and rural traditional agricultural land into land that could hold 5-acre lots.
“Gary Ghramm, of Cousin Gary’s LLC of Coeur d’Alene, is seeking high-density residential use for 13 acres northeast of U.S.395 and Little Spokane Drive. It currently is designated for low-density residential.
“Greg and Margaret Blessing, of Spokane, are seeking light industrial use for 7.8 acres south of U.S. 2 and east of Geiger Boulevard. It now is low-density residential.
“Edward Payne of Spokane wants to convert 3 acres northwest of Geiger Boulevard and Lewis Street into a regional commercial designation from its current use as community commercial. It would allow larger potential buildings.
“William Lawson of Spokane is seeking medium-density residential use for 10 acres south of Millview Drive and west of Argonne Road in the Northwood area. It currently is low-density residential.
“Sunbird Technologies of Spokane wants to turn 20 acres south of 53rd Avenue and north of 55th Avenue east of Regal Street into medium-density residential and mixed commercial and residential use from its current designation as low-density residential.
“Melvin and Carolyn Lindauer, of Spokane, want to during 1.6 acres at the northwest corner of Hastings Road and Dakota Street into high density residential from a current designation of low-density residential.
“A group of owners not named on the county’s official notice want to turn eight parcels of land north of Peone Road and east of Fairview Road into a rural designation allowing 5-acre lots. It currently is designated for more restrictive small-tract agriculture. The agents listed on the application are Reggie Hansen and Allan Manzak, of Mead.
