Citizen journal: Crime-prevention visit appreciated by neighbors

David C. Ferguson Special to Your Voice

Recently the community of Sonrise Place at 11303 E. Jackson Ave., was honored by a visit from Deputy Greg Snyder who conducted a crime prevention program for the residents.

The visit was prompted by members of the Trentwood office of the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort who recently moved to the area. Officer Snyder gave a very informative presentation of how to deter home burglaries and acts of would-be law violators.

He stressed the need for neighborhood awareness and cooperation among the residents of the community. He further emphasized the need to notify a neighbor if an owner plans to be away from home. He encouraged neighbors to report any unusual circumstances arising at the home during the owner’s absence.

The meeting was well attended by the residents living in Sonrise Place. Many who attended expressed a feeling of appreciation to Deputy Snyder for taking his time to share his knowledge of neighborhood crime prevention.

Sonrise Place is a residential area of manufactured homes in a semi-gated community. Although crime in this specific location has been very slight, there have been many incidents of criminal acts in areas adjacent to this community.

The primary purpose of the gathering was to alert home owners to be aware that there have been many incidents in the surrounding area. The possibility that these incidents could move into the gated community is a distinct reality.
