Inside our schools: Lakeland staging ‘Charlotte’s Web’

Paula Davenport The Spokesman-Review

A stage version of “Charlotte’s Web” will be performed a half-dozen times in the coming weeks at Lakeland High School in Rathdrum.

The Lakeland Hawks Stars Drama Club will bring the enduring children’s story to life.

Four evening performances will be presented at 7 p.m. on next Thursday and Oct. 26 and again on Nov. 1 and 2. Two matinees are scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. Shows will be staged in the high school commons area.

Stars include some of Lakeland High School’s most talented young actors, director Becca Palmer wrote in a press release.

Be sure to look for Wilbur, the young pig hoping to elude the butcher (played by Katie Whittaker); Fern, a girl who understands animal talk (Lauren Archambeault); Templeton, a hungry rat who sometimes does good deeds (Nicholas Pelletti); and the extraordinary spider Charlotte (Brianna Palaniuk), Palmer said.

Tickets will be $4 for adults who donate a new or gently used children’s book, $5 with a Lakeland ASB or $6 for those who do not wish to bring books.

Cash proceeds will go to Lakeland’s drama club. Books will be given to The Children’s Village in Coeur d’Alene.

PF student attending leadership conference

A seventh-grader from Mullan Trail Elementary School will be attending an invitation-only state youth leadership conference in Seattle this spring.

This will be the third time Jessica Malloy has been tapped to participate in the nonpartisan Congressional Youth Leadership Council meetings.

Two years ago, she visited Washington, D.C. In July, she attended a group alumni gathering in Boston.

“The aim of the … conference(s) is to inspire students to recognize their own leadership skills, measure their skills against those of current and former leaders and return home with newfound confidence in their ability to exercise positive influence within their communities,” Mike Lasday, the council’s executive director wrote in a news release.
