Musical evening

» Now is your chance to listen to the Spokane Symphony for free. The orchestra will perform a free community concert at 6 p.m. today in Liberty Lake's Pavillion Park. The music to be performed includes Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Stars and Stripes Forever and selections from Pirates of the Caribbean and Jurassic Park.

» It will be a family friendly event and those attending are invited to bring a picnic dinner. Bring a blanket or chair for seating.

What to do?

» Since it is Labor Day weekend, many people will be hitting area lakes and rivers for a bit of recreation. Naturally, there's a matching dearth of public events. But what are families to do if a trip to the waterfront isn't in the cards? There's always last-minute school shopping. Sometimes stores save their best sales for last and a little bargain hunting can turn up some good deals. You can also grab the dog and/or the kids and go for a stroll along the Centennial Trail. Visit the local farmers' market and check out the abundance of fresh produce you can use to create a tasty meal.
