Interstate Business Center opening

Nils Rosdahl Correspondent

Determining a name for a business sometimes is a problem. It has to be catchy; it has to be easy so people remember it. So it was for the folks in Interstate Business Center, a new building comprising three insurance businesses and a coffee house/restaurant.

Original architect Bill Teer must have had a coffee container in front of him because he had penciled “Moon Dollars” on the plan for the restaurant space. So he played on the famous name Starbucks and came up with the astronomical-monetary derivative of Moon Dollars. It stuck.

Opening this past week in the 5,650-square-foot building at the intersection of Polston and Syringa in Post Falls, Moon Dollars offers bread and baked goods made from scratch, and Chef Rick Demmig adds soups, sandwiches, salads, pizza and paninis. Beverages include Dominion Coffee, beer and wine.

Moon Dollars seats 35 customers and has a drive-up window and a conference room (with a plasma-screen TV) open for community use by reservation. With eight employees, hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 777-7040.

Of course, the primary reason for the building itself is the insurance business. Inside are Dickinson Insurance, Glacier Insurance and Northwest Risk Solutions, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Dickinson Insurance’s J.D. Dickinson specializes in personal and business insurance with options of home, automobile, RV, workers’ compensation, contractor and business insurance. Angie Demmig of the benefits division offers health, life and group insurance. Call: 773-0504.

Dickinson and Randy Oaks formed Northwest Risk Solutions to be consultants for businesses with 75 or more employees. They offer safety and OSHA compliance recommendations. Call: 262-7085.

Steve Schenefelt and Jaimie Klemo of Glacier Insurance, also owned by Dickinson, specialize in higher-risk clients for nonstandard auto insurance policies. Call: 773-2886.

Life Care expands to Post Falls

Ground is just being scraped for a Life Care Centers of America facility on 20 special acres you can’t miss seeing – on the north side of Interstate 90 between Wal-Mart and the Coeur d’Alene RV Park.

The skilled-nursing facility will be a 62,203-square-foot structure and expands from similar facilities in Hayden and Sandpoint.

Life Care options include assisted-living, Alzheimer’s centers and retirement homes. The company has more than 260 facilities throughout the nation, with its headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn. It began there in 1970.

This week’s tidbits

“Chris Arnold of North Idaho Legal Services offers process serving, contract paralegal work, transcription services, mediation and supervised access, which includes visitation and exchanges involved in high-conflict divorces, custody disputes and domestic abuse cases. Her office at 15 W. Honeysuckle, Hayden, includes activities for children up to ages 18. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily by appointment. Call 762-0462.

“People ask how I get leads for my business items. One way is by taking different routes to and from work each day. Possibly my best break was seeing a fellow pounding stakes in vacant acreage in the northeast corner of Neider Avenue and Government Way in Coeur d’Alene.

I tramped through the field to see “Costco” printed on a stake. That was an exciting scoop.
