Lake City routs Kennewick
As far as Lake City coach Van Troxel was concerned, his team’s 49-21 road victory over the Kennewick Lions was everything he desired.
“Early we made too many mistakes, so it was good for our guys to handle some adversity,” said Troxel, whose team ran its winning streak to 14, which dates back to last season.
The No. 1-ranked Timberwolves actually trailed for the first time this season. Kennewick, playing in its season opener, opened a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.
The T-Wolves came back to tie it at 14 when quarterback Tommy Anderson hit Christian Hanna on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 3:15 to go before halftime.
The teams headed to halftime knotted at 14.
The second half, though, belonged to LC.
The T-Wolves scored four straight TDs to open a 42-14 lead early in the fourth quarter.
“We had to learn how to go on the road,” Troxel said. “In the second half we were a lot sharper, a lot better. It was everything we wanted against a very good football team.”
Carrying much of the load for LC (2-0) was senior running back B.J. Palmer. He finished with 169 yards on 24 carries and three second-half TDs.
“It was a great team win,” Troxel said. “We got a lot of contributions from a lot of guys and we were able to play a lot of guys again.”
LC travels to 4A Madison of Rexburg next week.
