Girls soccer

Marisa Watson’s hat trick lifted Lakeland (1-4-1, 1-2-1) to a 3-2 win over host Post Falls in Inland Empire League action on Thursday.

The Trojans (0-4-1, 0-3-1) scored twice late in the match to come within a goal, but that was as close as they would come.

Hawks goalkeeper Bonnie Biggs made 13 saves.

In other league action, sophomore Kerry Moller scored four goals, leading Moscow to a 5-1 win over visiting Lewiston (2-3, 2-2). Kenna Gardes also scored for the Bears (1-3, 1-3), who outshot the Bengals 16-9. Janie Perez was responsible for Lewiston’s lone goal.

“Kellogg (2-3, 1-2) beat host Priest River (0-1, 0-1) 4-0 in the Intermountain League.

Kellie Zakrzewski scored three first-half goals and Molly McClure had three in the second half as Cheney cruised to a 6-0 victory over visiting Medical Lake (0-1, 0-1) in Great Northern League play. Cheney (2-0, 1-0) dominated the action, outshooting Medical Lake 26-2. … Elsewhere in the GNL, Dee Dee Garbe had a goal and an assist, leading West Valley to a 2-1 season-opening win over visiting Riverside. Korlynn Hiller’s goal in the 74th minute brought the Rams (0-1, 0-1) within 2-1, but Garbe’s goal 3 minutes later sealed the deal for the Eagles (1-0, 1-0). … Jacy Fitzpatrick and Kyra Sanders scored two goals apiece as Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (1-1, 1-0) routed host Chewelah (0-2, 0-1) 10-1. The Eagles held a 22-10 advantage in shots. … Jessica Thomas scored Pullman’s first and last goals of the game and the Greyhounds (2-0, 1-0) topped host Clarkston 3-1. Freshman Roni Hewett scored her first career goal for the Bantams (0-1, 0-1). … Kelsey Dutton, Hannah Palmer and Stevie Harris all scored goals for Deer Park as the Stags opened with a 3-1 win over host Colville (1-1, 0-1). Shaylie Barcelos had six saves in goal for Deer Park (1-0, 1-0).

Katie Dumont had seven kills and Taryn Cochrane added a team-high seven digs and three aces as Kellogg (1-0) beat visiting Bonners Ferry 25-17, 25-15, 25-10 to open Intermountain League play. Hannah Cady had a game-high 11 digs to lead the Badgers (0-1). … In other league action, Shawna Heath had 19 kills and Michelle Guidry added 29 assists as St. Maries (1-0) swept host Priest River 26-24, 25-21, 25-16. Taylor Stewart had eight kills and five blocks to lead Spartans (0-1).

Football

Senior Jay Ploharz threw three touchdown passes, leading Mullan to a 32-20 win over host Lakeside (0-2, 0-1) in a North Star League game in Plummer. The Tigers (2-0, 1-0) outscored the Knights 18-0 in the second half after trailing 20-14 at halftime.

Boys soccer

Moscow’s Taylor Anderton scored two goals and Matt Martin added a goal and an assist as the Bears defeated host Lewiston 4-0 in the Inland Empire League. Nathan Williams also scored for Moscow (3-2, 2-2), which outshot the Bengals (0-6, 0-3) 20-1. … In other IEL play, Post Falls’ Griffin Hoerner scored a goal in the 66th minute as the Trojans (2-1-1, 1-1-1) and host Lakeland played to a 1-1 tie in Rathdrum. Sam Frank scored in the 30th minute for the Hawks (0-3-1, 0-2-1), who held on despite being outshot 24-6.
