A benefit dinner and dance to support the Veterans History Project will be held Saturday at the Lake City Senior Center in Coeur d’Alene.

The “America’s Heroes” event will begin at 4:30 p.m. with classic car rides around the lake, an exhibit of the locally-sewn “Freedom Quilt” and a chance for veterans to pin their photos to a Wall of Honor display.

Dinner will be followed by dancing to live 40’s and 50’s-era music by All That Jazz and a special performance the Hilliard Bells Flappers. Tickets are $15 and are available from the American Legion Post 14. Door prizes and raffles will be held throughout the evening.

The Veteran’s History Project is a national initiative to preserve oral histories and artifacts from U.S. World War II veterans.

Eat breakfast, help the homeless

Thrift Shop getting facelift

Bargain hunters will want to add the newly-remodeled Thrift Shop, behind the Post Falls Senior Center, to their regular stops.

The store is getting a face lift and will extend its hours later this month. On Saturday , the Thrift Shop parking lot will be the site of a flea-market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Area vendors will be offering a variety of items at garage sale prices.

Tesh Inc. is teaming with the Senior Center to operate the thrift store.

Tesh will host a “re-grand opening” Sept 22 and 23 to celebrate its role in the operation.

At that time, regular hours will be extended to 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Thanks to a $23,000 grant from the North Idaho Women’s Gift Alliance, the shop is getting upgraded interior paint, shelves, store displays and loading areas.

Of the inventory, Harris said: “We’re starting to get some really nice things. It’s like an Easter egg hunt every time you come in.”

The Tesh program is nonprofit. It provides job opportunities for people with disabilities and helps raise money for Post Falls seniors’ meals. For more information, call 773-4815.
