Pac-10 picks
New Mexico at Arizona (UA by 10): The Wildcats aren’t playing the toughest schedule in the nation, that’s for sure. So the Lobos, who gave up 34 points last week to New Mexico State, fit right in. Arizona 28-14.
San Diego State at Arizona State (ASU by 28): You don’t think teams compare scores – or stats? Rudy Carpenter passes for 305 yards in the first half and it’s … Arizona State 46-17.
Louisiana Tech at California (Cal by 33): The Techsters were tough on Hawaii at home. They won’t be as tough on the road. Cal 44-17.
Fresno State at Oregon (Oregon by 16): The Ducks might just be flying into the perfect trap game. Fresno State is always tough on Pac-10 schools and the Bulldogs are coming off a triple-overtime defeat at Texas A&M. Oregon 28-27.
Idaho State at Oregon State (no line): Pity the poor Bengals. The Beavers were embarrassed in Cincinnati and they have to take it out on someone. OSU 42-10.
San Jose State at Stanford (Stanford by 7): This is a chance for the Cardinal to get a win – maybe their only one – for new coach Jim Harbaugh. They will. Stanford 14-13.
Ohio State at Washington (OSU by 4): The new drink of choice at Seattle’s 1.3 million Starbucks: Jake Locker Kool-Aid. He’s good, maybe even great, but he’s a freshman and Ohio State’s defense is tough. Ohio State 17-10.
UCLA at Utah (UCLA by 13.5): The Bruins got up big early against BYU last week and then went into a shell. That won’t happen this week. Not against a Utah team decimated by injuries. UCLA 35-21.
USC at Nebraska (USC by 10): This is the one the Big Red has been looking forward to since playing the Trojans tough in Los Angeles last season. They shouldn’t have. USC 42-10.
Idaho at Washington State (WSU by 26): This will be a civil, very civil, war. Not a Civil War. The Cougars will win, but there won’t be any bad blood spilled. Washington State 38-17.
Last week: 6-2 overall, 1-6 vs. spread; Season: 13-4 overall, 5-11 vs. spread.
