Feds give go-ahead on killing wolf pack

MISSOULA – Federal officials have authorized killing a pack of wolves because the predators made a habit of feeding on cattle on private land southwest of Drummond.

“When a wolf pack focuses on livestock on private land as a food source, difficult decisions must be made,” said Carolyn Sime, wolf management coordinator for the state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Three calves were confirmed killed this week – two on Sunday and one on Monday.

USDA Wildlife Services killed three wolves on Wednesday. Another wolf was killed Friday.

The remaining wolves will also be killed, said Mack Long, FWP Region 2 supervisor.
