Q: My grandfather has a Civil War discharge signed by Abraham Lincoln. Can you recommend someone we can contract so that we have a better idea of its value? — Coleen, Apopka, Fla.

A: John Reznikoff is the owner of University Archives, a company that specializes in fine historical autographs. He can help you authenticate it. His contact information is 49 Richmondville Ave., Westport, CT 06880; john@universityarchives.com; and www.universityarchives.com. Q: I have a Rolling Stones record that is marked London, Mono. Some of my friends want to buy it from me, but I don’t know how much it’s worth. — Darlene, Redvers, SK, Canada

A: You didn’t provide me with enough information to help you. You left out some basic facts, such as the title of the album and its condition. There are several excellent price guides that might help. I especially like Rockin’ Records by Jerry Osbourne and published by Osbourne Enterprises, and the Goldmine Standard Catalogue of American Records 1950-1975 by Tim Neely (Krause Publications, $34.99). Another excellent way to determine values is to monitor LP sales on eBay.
