Locally: Casey rides hot streak to North Bowl JBT title
When Kyle Casey got on a roll in the Junior Bowlers Tour stop at North Bowl last Sunday, there was no stopping him.
For a second straight tournament, Casey had to rally just to make the five-man roll-off, this time vaulting from 14th to tie for the fourth and fifth spots. A month earlier he jumped from 18th in the match-play qualifying set to claim fifth.
With momentum on his side, Casey defeated Terran Travis, with whom he tied; Thomas Locke; and Todd Benner to move into the championship match against No. 1 qualifier Nick Schmehl. Casey won a thriller, 201-199.
Benner, who had the day’s top game, a 264, and qualifying session scores of 863 and 884, finished third; Locke was fourth; and Travis fifth. Schmehl sewed up the top spot in qualifying with an 893 series.
Lacey Kerr had the day’s best score for the girls, a 246.
Next JBT is Sept. 30 at Players & Spectators.
