Chinese Moon Festival is Saturday at GU
Spokane Chinese Association will hold its fifth annual Moon Festival at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Cataldo Globe Room at Gonzaga University.
The festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrating autumn harvest and family reunion.
It is a time that families and friends get together to celebrate their relationship, toast each other and share an exquisite pastry made in the symbol of the moon, called “moon cake.” The holiday is close to what Thanksgiving is here in AmericaThe program includes tasting of “moon cake,” talent show, riddles, games, songs and a short movie on the Chinese legend of Moon Lady Chang E, who immortalized herself by flying to the moon (Chinese children are all taught to look for her on the night of the festival. It is believed if you look hard enough, you will see her holding her white rabbit.)
Admission is $3 per person, but free if you do not intend to have moon cake tasting. Please call Jane Gong at 443-7061 if you have any questions.
