Holy Trinity offers Greek dinner

For the 72nd year, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will present its annual Greek Festival today, Friday and Saturday.

The menu includes souvlakia, pastries, coffee and deli items, along with a beer garden.

Lunch will be served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The grill will be open from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday and from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Dinner will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night.

The festival also will include cooking demonstrations, Greek dancing, church tours and a book sale.

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger.

Musical church service

Lincoln Heights Congregational Church, 3527 E. 29th Ave., will present Doug and Candy Gintz in concert Sunday during the 11 a.m. service.

Kitchen shower

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1832 W. Dean Ave., will hold a morning tea and kitchen shower Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Members of area churches will gather for tea and bring kitchen equipment and tools. The church is in need of new or gently used kitchen items to help it offer hospitality to its members and neighbors.

Workshops, speakers

“Gonzaga University and Whitworth University will present a series of lectures today and Friday.

The 2007 Faith, Film and Philosophy lectures, “Exploring Faith and Reason in a Postmodern Culture,” will feature Thomas Hibbs, a professor of ethics and culture at Baylor University, and Mike Foley, an assistant professor of patristics, also at Baylor.

Hibbs will speak today at 7 p.m. in Wolff Auditorium in the Jepson School of Business on the Gonzaga campus.

His topic will be “Spiritual Quests in the films of M. Night Shyamalan.”

Foley will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, also in Wolff Auditorium, on “Gattacca, the Truman Show and S1M0NE: The Platonic Version of Andrew Niccolby.”

“ Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present a series of workshops, “Jesus in the First and 21st Centuries,” on Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s workshop, “A Life in Fragments,” will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will discuss evidence about Jesus as a historical figure. Cost is $15.

Two workshops are scheduled Saturday, one from 9:30 a.m. to noon and another from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The first workshop, “The Jesus of the First Century and the Ethics of Jesus,” will discuss whether the ethical ideas of Jesus still are relevant today. Cost is $25.

The second workshop, “The Jesus of the 21st Century,” will discuss whether the historical Jesus has relevance in today’s culture. Cost is $25.
