Housewarming celebrates retirement
Basking in the late summer sun, more than 100 friends and neighbors showed up for a housewarming at the new abode of Donald “Bear” Rose and Sandy Rose last Saturday.
Former owners of Boileau’s Resort and the Button Hook Restaurant, the now-retired couple recently moved into a fantastic 4,150-square-foot rustic-flavored home on Cape Horn.
Boasting many amenities, such as a built-in full-service bar on the lower story and a huge wall-to-wall fireplace in the great room, this house will see the Roses through the years in style. The view from the house is unparalleled, as is the view back from the water toward the house.
The champagne bubbled and the snacks were the best, which isn’t remarkable considering that Sandy always insisted on excellence at the Button Hook.
We all miss them.

‘Octoberfish’ Oct. 5

On Oct. 5, an auction – a fundraiser for the chamber – will be held at the Captain’s Wheel Restaurant. The derby will be held Oct. 6 and 7.

Last year, this derby had the richest payout of any on Lake Pend Oreille.
Poker run successful
American Legion Post 149 hosted its first poker run for both motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.
Thirty-one units participated, earning $140 for the Veterans Home in Lewiston. More money was coming in from donation cans around the area.
By the way, for you folks who haven’t dropped in for a while, there’s a new bartender at the Legion. Debbie invites you all to come by to say hi.
Brother Jones at Wheel
Entertainment for the weekend includes Brother Jones appearing Friday and Saturday nights at the Captain’s Wheel.
September marks the last of the Friday-Saturday entertainment schedule; beginning in October, Saturday-nights-only will be the policy through the winter.
