Panhandle Picks with Greg Lee

The Spokesman-Review

I can’t celebrate my first perfect week too much. I have to keep things in perspective. A couple of teams had games canceled for various reasons and that left just six games. So while the fact is I went 6-0, I’m going to act like I’ve done it before – which, of course, I have.

My guest, Coeur d’Alene High two-sport standout Nick Rook, and I differed on just one game – Ferndale’s come-from-behind win over visiting Lewiston. So the scoreboard reads: Lee 32-8 (.800), Guests 29-11 (.725).

That’s what I like most at this point: I have a comfortable lead with five weeks left in the regular season.

Lake City High graduate and Timberwolves softball coach Laura Tolzmann is my guest this week. Tolzmann played on the undefeated state championship girls basketball team at Coeur d’Alene the year before LC opened and then she played on the state title team the following year at LC.

Coeur d’Alene at Lake City: In the 14-year history of Panhandle Picks, this is possibly the easiest game to pick between the city rivals.

The game, friends, shouldn’t be close by any stretch of the imagination. This is a classic mismatch. Yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vikings coach Shawn Amos rallies the troops and manages to keep it close for a half. Doubtful though.

LC has too many offensive weapons and is stout on defense. It could be a long night for CdA. LC 35, CdA 10.

Guest: The Vikings are young and will put up a good battle, but the T-Wolves are strong and on a roll. LC 28, CdA 7.

Lakeland at Post Falls: I’ve seen both teams and Post Falls is the better team. But I respect the fight I saw in the Hawks last week against CdA.

The Trojans have a more explosive offense. But Lakeland will move the ball against the Trojans. PF 27, Lakeland 17.

Guest: (PF coach Jeff) Hinz has worked really hard and has PF playing well. Lakeland will put up a good fight, but PF will be tough at home. PF 24, Lakeland 14.
