Teams split season series
The Chiefs and Giants meet in the postseason for the first time in franchise history after both clubs swept their first-round opponents. Spokane topped Everett in four games, while Vancouver swept Chilliwack. The teams met twice early in the regular season. Spokane won 2-0 in Vancouver on Oct. 21 and the defending Memorial Cup champion Giants edged the Chiefs 2-1 in a shootout on Nov. 3 at the Arena.
Leading playoff scorers: LW Michal Repik leads the Giants with four goals and three assists while three Chiefs are tied with five points each – LW Drayson Bowman (three goals, two assists) and centers Ondrej Roman (three goals, two assists) and Mitch Wahl (two goals, three assists).
Between the posts: Both teams’ netminders started and won four games in the first round. For Vancouver, Tyson Sexsmith (1.40 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in playoffs) faced 125 shots in the first round and allowed seven goals. Spokane’s Dustin Tokarski (1.43 GAA, .947 save percentage) gave up six goals on 113 shots.
Special teams: Spokane has a slight edge here. The Chiefs were 5 of 20 on the power play in round one, while Vancouver was 5 of 23. Spokane was 14 for 16 (87.5 percent) on the penalty kill and the Giants were 15 of 19 (78.9 percent).
