Liberty lake blotter
Liberty Lake police made several arrests the week of March 31-April 7, ranging from driving under the influence to vehicle prowling.
Two people were arrested March 31 shortly before 5 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Caufield Ct.
“We had a witness that saw two people prowling cars,” said police Chief Brian Asmus. “They were confronted by a witness and they took off before they got into any cars.”
The responding officer couldn’t locate the suspects, but police received a call a couple hours later about two men breaking into a car in the same general area. This time they were caught.
One of the suspects, a 31-year-old Spokane man, has been arrested in Liberty Lake four times before for vehicle prowling and theft, Asmus said.
“He’s one of what we call our frequent fliers,” Asmus said. “Every time he comes to Liberty Lake, as far as we know, he gets arrested.”
Two fugitives were also located and arrested, including an Otis Orchards man who was stopped for a traffic violation; he was wanted on a felony warrant for possession of stolen property in Snohomish County.
The second fugitive was arrested near the Chevron station after police received a call about a man attempting to use a stolen credit card in the business. The wanted man matched the description given by a Chevron employee, but the employee said it wasn’t the same man, Asmus said. When police checked his name they found two Spokane warrants for escape from community custody for probation violations. “Poor guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Asmus said.
There were also arrests for possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and fourth-degree assault. Four citations were issued for failure to show liability insurance, six for license and plates required, two for hit-and-run, four for speeding, five for failure to wear a safety belt and two for failure to obey a traffic control device.
Additional citations were issued for failure to register a vehicle within 30 days, driving without a license, failure to obtain a Washington license, a log book violation, defective brakes and an unlawful U-turn.
Police were called for two incidents of harassment and also responded to calls for domestic violence, credit card fraud, malicious mischief and property theft. Two commercial vehicle inspections were completed and two commercial vehicle violations were found.
