Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 13541 W. Highway 53 in Rathdrum will hold a dedication and open house on April 20, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., celebrating its recent expansion.

Volunteers donated more than 8,000 hours to build the 12,000-square-foot addition which includes an additional 100 seats, multipurpose gym and three additional classrooms, one housing pre-school. The project also enlarged meeting rooms, offices, kitchen and bathrooms, and fulfills requirements for handicap access including an elevator.

Volleyball camp fundraiser

Lakeland High School’s girl’s varsity volleyball team will hold a volleyball skills camp April 19, from 9 a.m. to noon, for girls, grades three to six and their parents.

The camp is a benefit to raise funds to attend the Volleyball Festival in Reno, Nev., in June. According to the group, “The festival is a seven-day tournament comprised of over 12,000 girls playing ball at one time.”

Participating in the national event with girls from across the nation will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Lakeland girls, who are already in training for the competition that is said to be “the world’s largest annual sporting event, just slightly smaller in number of participants than the Summer Olympics.”

The varsity team still needs to raise $3,500 of the $9,100 cover travel and expenses for the event. In addition to this clinic, they will be holding a raffle and plan on selling concessions and Lakeland decals at a later date.

More information and forms are available at John Brown, Betty Keifer, Garwood and Twin Lakes elementary schools, or by calling 773-1030.
