Sasquatch ride Coulter’s arm to victories

Heather Coulter pitched two solid games for Community Colleges of Spokane in a 5-1, 4-3 NWAACC doubleheader sweep for the Sasquatch over Wenatchee Valley on Friday at SFCC.

Coulter held Wenatchee Valley (26-6, 12-4) to two hits in the first game and received offensive help from University High graduate Ashley Fargher’s two doubles.

Fargher finished the day with three doubles and three RBIs.

The Sasquatch (14-10, 8-4) were down 3-1 in the second game before the Knights walked in the tying runs, and the winning run scored on a fielding error.

•Brittany Lastrapes hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to lift Arizona over Washington 5-4 in a Pac-10 game in Tucson, Ariz.

Jace Williams led the Huskies (24-13, 3-4) with two hits and an RBI. Taryne Mowatt picked up the win for the Wildcats (28-11, 5-3).

Baseball

Arizona State scored nine runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 15-3 win over Washington State in Pac-10 action in Pullman.

The Sun Devils (29-3, 5-2) smacked 16 hits and recorded 10 runs on four Washington State (18-14, 2-5) errors.

The Cougars scored a run in the fourth on a Scott Suttmeier double and two in the seventh on an RBI triple by Paul Gran.

•Santa Clara smashed five home runs off host Gonzaga in a 12-4 win in West Coast Conference action at Patterson Complex.

Nate Garcia surrendered two runs and struck out six for the Broncos (18-12, 4-3).

Marcus McKimmy and Ryan Wiegand had two hits each for Gonzaga (17-15, 1-5). McKimmy and Wiegand drove in all the Bulldogs’ runs.

Rowing

The U.S. Naval Academy varsity 8 defeated the Gonzaga men’s boat on the opening day of the George Washington Invitational Regatta on the Potomac River.

Gonzaga lost by 5 seconds to the Midshipmen – Navy finished the 2,000-meter course in 5 minutes, 55 seconds. The Bulldogs’ novice 8 defeated the Naval Academy’s boat by 1.6 seconds.
