Week in review
Valley Fire – The districts run statistics are up 11.5 percent for the first quarter over this time last year. Commissioners discussed having the second meeting of each month in various locations in the community. Those meetings would begin at 6:30 p.m. No final decisions were made. The district is trying to fill positions for a training officer and a day officer. A construction contract for $1,230,650 was awarded to Meridian Construction to build Station 9. Fire District 11 (Rockford) – Commissioners discussed a truck that needs repair and also talked about applying for a grant to purchase a new pumper/tender truck for the district. (Source: Chief Stan Seehorn)
Fire District 8 – Commissioners voted to extend the contract of Chief Bill Walkup, which had been due to expire in 2009, to 2011. They discussed having the senior staff and commissioners do team building exercises. Four bids for a new rescue pumper engine for Station 82 were opened. Staff is reviewing the bids. The district recently completed testing for an eligibility list for firefighters and paramedics. A contract to purchase two brush trucks has been awarded to General Fire. The trucks should be delivered in 180 days. Chief Walkup gave an update on his public records request to the city of Spokane for information on annexation attempts. Edgecliff SCOPE – Volunteers discussed their upcoming spaghetti feed on April 19. The group will also have their train in the Junior Lilac Parade. Ten rebuilt computers have been donated to the Community Center run by SCOPE volunteers in the old Pratt Elementary. (Source: President Pat Martin)
