Where bargains take flight

The Spokesman-Review

Insideflyer.com is the online version of the very appealing magazine of the same name. For frequent flyers and cost-conscious air travelers, InsideFlyer is the definitive guide to deals, promotions and news about airline bonus and mileage plans.

Getting full access to all the archives and content does require a paid subscription.

But the online site offers a selection of useful stories for free. A recent article notes that if one buys a ticket for Northwest or Southwest and uses PayPal, one gets a $50 discount.

Biographicon

If you feel tempted to create a personal entry on Wikipedia about yourself, let us advise you: don’t bother. Because Wikipedia’s has a “notability” requirement, anyone we know (and that’s pretty much all of you, too) is not famous enough to qualify. If you create a Wikipedia entry, it will quickly be deleted.

So here’s plan B: Go over to Biographicon.com, a wiki site set up with the express purpose of hosting biographies for every person on the planet who wants one, then drawing connections between those people.

There’s no notability requirement there. The site’s guidelines suggest narrative descriptions of even the most pedestrian events. For example, biography writers are told not to include personal information such as birth dates, addresses or phone numbers. Bio writers are told to “write things that are true. Fix what isn’t.”

Sounds brilliant.

HMTL.net

Want to become a Web designer but learn at your own pace? Hundreds of sites say they can help you do that. HMTL.net is one of the easier ones we’ve found.

For instance, it doesn’t try to do everything. If you want an overview of Web coding, this site offers exactly 15 self-guided lessons. And that’s all, folks.
