Poster contest winners named

Winners of a poster contest sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development were announced Monday at the Spokane City Council meeting.

The contest was held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act and was open to children who take part in community grant-funded programs at the Northeast, Peaceful Valley and West Central Community Centers, the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane County and the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Center.

The last names of the winners were not released. All winners received gift certificates to Auntie’s Bookstore.

In the kindergarten through second grade age group, Sam G. from West Central Community Center won first prize. Alyssa from the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane Country won second place, and Lillian from Peaceful Valley Community Center placed third.

In the group third through fourth grade, Madison P. won first prize. Victoria from Peaceful Valley Community Center placed second, and Michael from West Central Community Center won third prize.

In the group fifth through sixth grade, William from Martin Luther King, Jr., Family Center won first prize. Zachary from Peaceful Valley Community Center won second prize, and Madison S., also from Peaceful Valley Community Center, placed third.

The posters are hanging in River Park Square.
